The Cheeksters

Lead singer/guitarist Mark Casson’s probably
sick of hearing that his theatrical vocals evoke David Bowie in full
Ziggy Stardust mode. But if
the Thin White Duke’s recent records have left you less than
overwhelmed, check out the new Cheeksters’ CD, Skating on the Cusp.
The new record forsakes the R&B influenced grooves of the
former Knoxvillians’ earlier Hey, What’s Your Style for electric
sitars, glammy melodies, and flourishes of autoharp, harmonica, banjo
and bells. Mayble it’s
the combination of Casson’s neo-mod British roots and bassist Shannon
Hines Casson’s East Tennessee upbringing, but the result is pop
psychedelia that’s both trippy and homespun.
With the Judybats’ David Jenkins on drums and producer Brent
Little on everything from electric guitar to sitar, the group plays 12th
and Porter with Kim’s Fable.
