A
little dirty, a little sweet - Stateside populates its debut disc
with punchy rockers that bear a British pop influence while retaining
the Tennessee band's southern roots. Front man John Paul Keith
was The V-Roys' original lead guitarist and later led the more
mod rockin' outfit, The Nevers. Stateside tunes like
"Little Black Dress" and "Salt In The Wound" burst
with urgency, while "No Such Thing As You" bears a roughed-up Marshall
Crenshaw sound and "You Were Made For Me" is simply a
classic pop love song. Ryan Adams contributes some vocals to this
group's standout initial outing.
